In your issue of September 19, under the heading, "Letters from Times' Readers," a writer takes exception to the combining of the words "Christian" and "Science," and later makes the surprising statement that "Christian Science does not heal sickness or infirmity through faith in God."

Christian Science is a religion based on the Bible, and is in exact accordance with the teachings of Christ Jesus, who said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Christian Science is "Christian" because it is based on the spiritual understanding of the teachings of the Master. It is "Science" because it is susceptible of proof, being based on divine Principle and demonstrated according to its rules. It has nothing to do with carnal mind or material so-called science.

If our critic would take the trouble to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, he would find that Christian Science heals sin and sickness only through radical reliance on God. He would discover this fact in the opening sentence on page 1 of that volume, which reads, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."
