Relationship

Jesus said, "Whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother." And Mrs. Eddy makes the statement that "He [God] is man's only real relative on earth and in heaven" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 151). These statements point to each one's heritage of good, and his exemption from all the handicaps humanly associated with heredity and relationship. God alone is Life, and to understand our relation to Life is to see that there is no death. God is Love, and to understand our relation to Love is to see the present way out of sin and grief.

The Christian Scientist is called upon to be a consistent, true witness at every point. When trials arise in connection with human relationships, it is illuminating and liberating for the Christian Scientist to recognize that God, good, is actually the only real relative of each one concerned in the case, for there is only one creator. It is in God, good, that we really meet, never to part. By demonstrating our true relationship with God we overcome the temptations attendant upon a human sense of relationship. Christian Science teaches us to see both good and evil impersonally. It requires us to cease deifying or condemning any person. We fulfill this divine requirement by understanding that man's origin is Spirit and that, basically, all relationship abides in Spirit and is wholly spiritual.

Jesus said that a "house divided against itself shall not stand." Mortal mind, knowing nothing of divine Principle, knows nothing of the unity of good. A difficulty between individuals is often accentuated by, if not actually traceable to, self-will on both sides, and healing of this arrogant trait of mortal mind must be humbly sought after if difficult human situations are to be healed. Just as health is restored in Christian Science through understanding the indestructible nature of health born of God, Spirit, and abiding there, so from the same spiritual basis can harmony be restored between human beings who are faced with distressing differences. Personal incompatibility and antipathy are suggestions of mortal mind. They are unreal, for in the one divine Mind and its one perfect manifestation there is no basis for division.
