I have had many healings since my entry into Christian Science...
I have had many healings since my entry into Christian Science in the summer of 1930. An outstanding one was that of a tubercular hip of over twenty years' standing. Since early childhood I had been troubled with this condition. After seven years of doctoring with a local orthopedic surgeon, I was able to get around on crutches; but the periodic attacks continued for years. In 1929 a surgeon promised that an operation would be a cure-all. I submitted to one that summer, but received only temporary relief. My doctor was discouraged with the results, as the attacks returned again in nine months. He advised me to give up my position at a radio station and retire from active life—a bright future for a young man!
A few months later the wife of a physician presented me with her copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She asked me to read the book carefully, and with an open thought. I accepted the book and put it away on a shelf, until one day, a few months later, I visited a family of Christian Scientists. I well remember the sense of peace and contentment that came over me during my brief stay at their cottage. I was requested by a member of the family to take up the study of Christian Science. I did so, and went to see a practitioner upon my return to the city. It was comforting to hear from him that I was neither limited by nor subject to any man-made laws. I returned to the radio station, and discarded the crutches for a cane.
As this mental picture cleared away, the so-called periodic attacks disappeared into nothingness, never to return. Over two years ago I discarded the cane. For the first time in my life I was able to walk with no material assistance.
