I have been helped so many times by testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel that I feel I, too, must express my gratitude through this channel, hoping it will help others as I have been helped.
At one time when my son, then aged seven, was playing in the garden, he put his head under an incinerator to see if it was alight. A small friend emptied a bottle of methylated spirit over it and him, and flames burst all over his head. When I heard him scream, I declared God's allness, and carried him into the house. As I did so all fear vanished, for I felt for the first time such an overwhelming sense of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for having shown me that my boy need not suffer. I sent to a practitioner for help, which was at once given, and although the boy at the time was practically unrecognizable, all pain left him in about fifteen minutes. Two days later, I suddenly realized that his hair and eyelashes, which had appeared to have been burned off, were as long and thick as before. He had no mark or scar of any sort, and did not have any effects of shock. Although an operation had been pronounced essential, the same boy was also healed of septic tonsils and adenoids. He was examined by a doctor, who passed him as normal.
One other healing I should like to relate was of my mother-in-law, who after four X-ray photographs had been taken in a London hospital, was sentenced to a major operation for the removal of a large internal growth. She consented to have Christian Science treatment, however, and three days after the taking of the first photographs, and four more X rays had been taken, the specialists called my husband and me up to the room where they had all the photographs, set out, saying a most extraordinary thing had taken place. The last photographs showed every part normal, with no abnormal growth. The doctors also declared her heart, which had been pronounced dangerously weak, to be normal and strong. This healing was the result of the joyous realization of the truth of our Leader's words (Science and Health, p. 399), "Scientifically speaking, there is no mortal mind out of which to make material beliefs, springing from illusion."
