Some twenty-six years ago I took up the study of Christian Science...
Some twenty-six years ago I took up the study of Christian Science with the thought of investigating it to see if it led to the true path. Two of my sisters had turned to it after many doctors had given them up, and I felt that if it did not lead to the true path I should do all in my power to keep them from it; if it did, I was going to do all in my power to help them. With this thought I studied the textbook, and in four weeks I had a beautiful experience with my mother. Without the understanding of Christian Science which I had gained a doctor would have been called in at two o'clock in the morning, as formerly when she had similar attacks a doctor would always be called in at any time of the day or night. The next morning she told my sisters that at two o'clock that morning she thought she was dying, but that she called me and I talked to her about God; that I told her that God was right there, ever present; that she was God's perfect child, and that she lived, moved, and had her being in God; and at that point all darkness disappeared and the light shone in her consciousness.
Through reading and studying, without help from a practitioner, I was healed of stomach trouble, indigestion, and rheumatism, from which I had suffered almost all my life, as I had been taught that I had inherited it from my mother. When we turned to Christian Science we both learned that God is Father and Mother and that I could inherit nothing but good from my Father-Mother, God; that God never made rheumatism or any other so-called sickness, therefore I could not have it.
I cannot thank God enough for leading me into the light; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for class instruction, and for understanding with which to help others. I am very grateful for the privilege which my husband and I had of going to Boston and of attending the Annual Meeting and services in The Mother Church. When we were shown through the new Publishing House, my husband and I were indeed grateful that we were subscribers to the periodicals. During the so-called depression we did not discontinue these subscriptions, for we felt that at a time like that we needed them more than ever to help to keep our consciousness filled with thoughts of Life, Truth, and Love, and abundance of right ideas, which we always get out of the periodicals. We further felt that through continuing our subscriptions we were enabled to make the demonstration of going to Boston.
