In reply to a correspondent in your issue of May 3, let me say that Christian Science has no "superficial air of logic and truth." Its logic is irrefutable and its truth absolute. This is being proved by an ever-increasing multitude throughout the civilized world. Through their study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, they are gaining an understanding of God which surpasses anything they ever had before, and which will continue to unfold to them.
Christ Jesus was the greatest healer of sin and disease the world has ever known, and his method was purely spiritual. Mrs. Eddy rediscovered his method, which, through the materialism of the times, had been lost to humanity for nearly two thousand years, and she named her discovery Christian Science. There are no contradictions in the philosophy of Christian Science, as our critic avers, but it is clear that he has misunderstood its teachings. The statement that sin is not real is true when the meaning of "reality" as given by Eddy on page 335 of Science and Health is understood. "Reality," she says, "is spiritual, harmonious, immutable, immortal, divine, eternal." This cannot be said of sin, matter, or evil of any description.
No suspicion can ever fall on the statements made by Mrs. Eddy, the Leader of the Christian Science movement, for she made none which do not conform absolutely to the teachings of Christ Jesus. It was our Master who said, "He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." The latter statement has been proved by a few people such as Enoch and Elijah. The fact that millions have not been able to prove it for themselves does not make the statement incorrect or incapable of proof.
