I have been benefited in many ways by Christian Science

I have been benefited in many ways by Christian Science. My physical demonstrations have been many, indeed. As early as I can remember, time and again minor ills were healed, when our family was only casually interested in Christian Science, and felt that serious cases required a doctor's attention. During that period, through my mother's help in Science, I was enabled to pass a dreaded examination, in perfect freedom from the nervous tension which always troubled me at such times.

After I began really to study the Bible and Science and Health I had help for stomach trouble; a tendency to take cold, which had always caused the family much concern, was overcome; an attack of ptomaine poisoning was met, and numerous so-called small afflications were healed through our reading and practicing the little we had learned of Truth.

What seems to me to have been my greatest physical demonstration was the healing of asthma of long standing. Only those who have had this trouble can appreciate what it means to be free from the symptoms that seem to be so wearing, both physically and mentally. When this healing was effected, I was visiting a friend many miles from home. Having felt miserable all day, I called on a practitioner for help. That evening, after retiring, I became violently ill, and at my request my friend telephoned to the practitioner for further treatment. My friend's mother, who was not a student of Science, was frightened, and wished to call a physician, as she said I had all the symptoms of typhoid pneumonia. Her daughter, however, knew that I was having the only help I needed, so she stayed with me all night, calling the practitioner whenever it seemed necessary. The next morning I was well, and decided to return home. My friends tried to persuade me to stay at least another day, as they thought I needed to rest before taking the long trip; but I knew that was not necessary, as I felt so refreshed, both in mind and in body. I went home that day, riding several hours on the train and ten miles on horseback, and felt better at the end of the journey than I had felt for months, both mentally and physically. A few years later, the ailment seemed to be manifested again, and I consulted a practitioner. I told her that I had felt certain that my healing was complete, and I could not understand why the disease should return. She told me that I had had my healing, but that perhaps I still had some fear of the trouble. She worked for me, and in a short time the fear and the symptoms disappeared. That was over nine years ago, and I have been entirely free ever since.
