About three years ago, perplexed and distressed by bad health, inharmonious conditions of employment, and other seemingly insurmountable difficulties, I turned to Christian Science almost in despair and, counseled by an experienced student, began earnestly to study the textbook. I had suffered at irregular intervals for many years from a bladder trouble which both medicine and surgery had failed to relieve permanently. Having an attack shortly after beginning my study of Science, I obtained help and was able to go to bed and sleep, thanks to the treatment given by the friend to whom I turned. During the night I awakened, and to my indescribable joy every trace of the trouble had disappeared. I felt awed and humbled, and the realization came clearly to me that I was in the presence of God, omnipotence, who could just as readily remove all my other seeming disabilities. I have never had a return of this trouble, and although tempted on two or three occasions to believe that I felt symptoms of an approaching attack, I am grateful that I was able, by realizing the omnipresence of divine Love, to fulfill St. Paul's injunction, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good."

I have been healed of eye trouble, and have been able to stop wearing spectacles. Also, through Truth, I have been healed of nervousness and of attacks of cramp in the legs and feet, which used to seize me frequently during the night. I have had many beautiful demonstrations over fatigue, and am able to do more and better work than ever before. After many trials, through all of which ample proof has been given of Love's unfailing guidance, I rejoice that I have gained through Science a measure of understanding which enables me to say with the Psalmist: "I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings."

I am very grateful to God for the wonderful truth, and to Mrs. Eddy for making it available to mankind, also to those whose unselfish aim it is to assist in spreading this gospel of healing and salvation, irrespective of their personal comfort and ease. The realization that there can be no standing still in Science is strong, and I am grateful also for the urge to go forward to win new standpoints and greater opportunities for service.—Elbert Percival Smith, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, British West Indies.
