Into a world forlorn
A promised babe was born,
Brought forth because the fire
Of Israel's great desire
To know God's surety,
Was wed to purity.

Into each heart forlorn
Is not the Christ-thought born,
When through the cleansing fire
Of the same dear desire,
Is seen with surety
Man's perfect purity?
