When Christian Science was brought to my notice in...
When Christian Science was brought to my notice in 1924 I was a victim of very severe stomach trouble. I was on a diet and had suffered great pain since coming from Denmark to this country a year and a half before. This greatly interfered with my work as a cabinetmaker.
A friend at my boardinghouse told me that Christian Science would heal me. Although he knew little about it, he told me to eat what I wanted to. The next evening I began to eat freely what was put before me. For the next six months the only knowledge I had of Christian Science was what little he told me, and what little I gathered in looking at the open books in the front window of a Christian Science Reading Room. I was healed of the stomach trouble during that time.
A gentleman who had moved to the boardinghouse showed me the books and literature on Christian Science and I began to read, although I knew little of the English language. I went to the Christian Science church, getting as far as the door but not going in. However, in watching the faces of those coming and going, I gathered the idea that Christian Science must have a great blessing for me as well as for them.
