I should like to take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and for those with whom I come in daily contact.
When I took up the study of this Science I was on the verge of a complete nervous breakdown. Whenever I was called upon to sign a paper (and my work is such that I have to notarize legal documents), my hand shook so much that it was impossible for me to sign my name or write anything with a pen, and it looked as if I should have to give up my position. I had spent a great deal of money on medical treatment, having had operations, many iron treatments, and so forth. For several years I did not have a day of freedom from some ailment. Then the thought came to me to try Christian Science. I went to a practitioner and he explained very kindly to me that as everything in reality is good, there can be nothing to fear; and that as I recognized the ever-presence of good, my consciousness of the truth would increase. Surely this seemed a message from God! I went back to my work realizing that everything I had to do was good; that my thoughts were good; that I loved everybody, and that everybody loved me. When fear would try to creep in I would always think of how Moses handled the serpent. Needless to say, I was soon rejoicing in freedom of thought and action.
Many times since then I have had to handle the serpent of mortal thought. Burns have been healed instantaneously; a sprained ankle was healed in one day; an extreme neuralgic condition, from which I had suffered severely for years, intestinal trouble, and unlovely traits of character have been entirely overcome by the persistent application of Christian Science. But that for which I am most grateful is the illumination of the Bible. I know now, with Paul, that nothing can "separate us from the love of God," and I realize that we are working as the disciples of Jesus worked—to glorify God in all things and to realize that He is with us. I am thankful to God for having had the blessed privilege of class instruction and for the spiritual growth attained therefrom; and I pray continuously for more enlightenment that I may prove to be a good worker in Christ's vineyard. My gratitude to Christ Jesus and to Mrs. Eddy for this glorious liberty is boundless.
