Birmingham Post

In your issue of August 28 there appeared an article which misrepresents the teachings of Christian Science on the subject of healing the sick. In justice to our religion and the readers who might be misled by this article, I will ask that you publish this letter.

The article classes Christian Science with a religion with which it is not in agreement. Christian Science is not a "faith cure," as an increasing number of Christians are finding out daily. It is the Science of Christ, as the name indicates. The many healings from sickness, sin, and sorrow that take place through the ministration of Christian Science are accomplished, not through mere faith in God, but through the understanding that omnipresent and omnipotent God is able to heal all of the ills of the flesh.

While the spiritual healing of the sick, without resort to material methods of assistance, is an important part of the mission of Christian Science, it is by no means the most important.
