With joyous thanksgiving I send this testimony of God's care. "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." Many times I had repeated that quotation and prayed that the door of understanding might be opened to me and that loved ones might be healed of pain and sickness. Though I had known of Christian Science for several years, had given up most of my faith in doctors, and had found the religion in which I had been brought up to be inadequate, it took a long time to realize that Christian Science was the way to an understanding of God and the answer to my prayer.
My first healing, which was instantaneous, came while a member of the family was being treated by a practitioner. For some time previous to this, I had suffered from a misplaced hip, which made walking and climbing stairs difficult. That particular day I was bent over, due to the condition of my back and hip. When the healing came it was as if a force outside myself straightened me up and left me straight. This healing has been permanent, while prior to this, doctors had given me only temporary relief.
One noon, while standing near the stove, my little boy fell, pulling over a kettle of hot chocolate and spilling the contents from the top of his head all over his body. His face was streaked with burns and there were blisters on his body. The practitioner who was called reminded me that "accidents are unknown to God" (Science and Health, p. 424). The child was cleaned up and sent back to school, and nothing more was seen or heard of the burns. This child has been able to demonstrate healing for himself, due in large measure to the training he received in the Science Sunday school.
