My heart is full of gratitude to God for the healing...
My heart is full of gratitude to God for the healing truth unfolded to me through the study and application of Christian Science. I have proved beyond doubt that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Three years ago I suffered from heart trouble, which the physician who faithfully attended me diagnosed as mitral stenosis. I was told that my condition was serious, there being an enlargement of the heart, also a leakage, and I was ordered to lie in bed on my back for an indefinite period. After I had spent five weeks in bed, it was decided that I should be removed to the coast, where, I was told, the air was cleaner. At this time friends who were Christian Scientists visited me and gave me copies of the Sentinel to read. Being governed by fear, and having no faith in Christian Science, I read these papers only as pleasant reading.
About three months latter friends asked me if I should like to have Christian Science treatment. I agreed, and thanked them for their interest, promising to discontinue reading medical books and to cease taking medicine and liquor. I was visited by a practitioner and shall never forget those two hours he spent with me. He lovingly and patiently told me that God is Love, and that there is no existence apart from God, and that in reality I was His perfect child. I was given a Bible, and a copy of Science and Health, and was asked to read and study the ninety-first Psalm, and "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of the textbook. The passages, "For God is All-in-all," and, "Man is not material; he is spiritual," appealed to me. After the practitioner had left me I read these passages over many times, gaining strength and inspiration each time. I had now found the "pearl of great price," the truth which the Master said would make us free; I was leaving my body out of thought. A few days afterwards I returned home and immediately resumed my ordinary duties, which I had not performed for five months; and I have now worked regularly for three years.
