Rob Wagner's Script

Christian Scientists enjoy a joke, and they are amused by good humor. However, as you know, facetious lines sometimes give a wrong impression. This is the case in the item, "Varieties of My Religious Experience," which appeared in your issue of February 17, when it said, "Christian Science cures through will."

No, this is not a correct statement, for human will is not a factor in Christian Science healing. Spirituality is the foundation on which Christian Science builds. Will-power is not a spiritual quality. The cures accomplished by this religion—and they are many—are wrought by the same spiritually mental method that Christ Jesus used.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says in her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 445), "Christian Science silences human will, quiets fear with Truth and Love, and illustrates the unlabored motion of the divine energy in healing the sick."
