It is with more gratitude than words can express that I am sending this testimony. When I found Christian Science sixteen years ago I was sick, discouraged, and without hope. I was suffering from what the doctors called epilepsy and had been pronounced incurable. For years these attacks had been growing in violence, while my strength and memory were steadily failing.
In the spring of 1919 I was getting too weak to do my housework, and it was decided that I should spend the summer with my sister. When I arrived at her home I found that some of my relatives had taken up the study of Christian Science, and I was urged to try it, but at first I put it off. I had no faith in it, and also I was taking two kinds of medicine which I thought I could not live without; but one day it came to me suddenly, Why not try? I had nothing to lose, for I could not be more miserable than I was. I decided to have absent treatments by a Christian Science practitioner, which were lovingly given.
I shall never forget my joy when my health began to return. First I found I could get a night's rest and get up refreshed in the morning—something I had not done for years; also I could eat my meals without suffering discomfort. I began to gain strength; my memory, which was nearly gone, began to return; and glasses were laid aside. The healing of the attacks was slower, as they appeared four times, although farther apart each time, but seemingly harder. The last time this trouble came upon me was five months after I had taken up Science. I was then back in my own home and far from relatives and Christian Science help; and although I had been studying faithfully I went through a battle with discouragement and despair. But God did not leave me in time of need. While I was trying to decide whether to go back to my old remedies or stay by Christian Science, I suddenly was lifted above all my fear, and it seemed as if everything were flooded with light. I knew I was healed. Gratitude and joy followed this healing.
