The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Elsinore, California (Society).

Lecturer: Hon. William E. Brown; introduced by Everett L. Grubb, who said:—

The trend of affairs in the world during the past several years has brought to many an increasing conviction that they seem unable to rise above their troubles and the world's difficulties; that they seem unable, with armies and munitions, to fight their way above them. Many now see that we must turn to spiritual thinking and living for the way out—a way open to all.

Christian Science, as now attested to by thousands in all parts of the globe, has brought to the world the message of how spiritually to think our way to the harmonious solution of our problems and those of the whole world. This is being accomplished by the understanding of what God is, of man's relation to God, as gained by the study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and the use in daily living of the healing and protecting truths revealed therein. The boundless and true liberty and happiness which come in Christian Science from the hourly realization that the only real values in life are spiritual—limitlessly available to all, present everywhere all the time, therefore not subject to loss or theft—are not to be described in words. They are the highest sort of inspiration to more spiritual living.

Dumont, New Jersey (First Church).

Lecturer: John Ellis Sedman; introduced by Mrs. Andrea G. Wilkins, who said:—

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy has written (p. 174): "Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practised." As we practice Christian Science we gradually come into the realization of the Master's words, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" — free from worry, want, and woe, and all the other ailments that beset the human race, the glorious freedom of our God-given heritage of peace, joy, and plenty.
