Spiritual Vision

Christian Science enhances the spiritual vision of all who gain an understanding of its teachings. One may be living in mental darkness until he obtains this understanding—and belief in the reality of matter, in the reality of material law, in the reality of evil, to the exclusion of spiritual understanding, is indeed dense darkness. But let the truth reach him, let him come into possession of that which is his birthright, namely, spiritual vision, and he begins to comprehend real being and to discern the unreal nature of matter, material law, and evil, and to gain the mastery over them. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 293 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Christian Science brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal harmony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil."

Christian Science, then, is bringing to human comprehension the truth about God. It is revealing Him as Truth, as Love, as Spirit. It is declaring that He is infinitely good, and therefore perfect, and that, in consequence, His creation, which is the manifestation of Himself, is absolutely harmonious. What a vision is this which Christian Science gives to mankind of God as the infinite and perfect One, and of His creation as the perfect expression Himself! But Christian Science does not stop even there; it goes on to make known the fact, so long hid from human apprehension, that matter and evil are unreal, since God is perfect Spirit. The spiritual vision, indeed, which Christian Science bestows is so intense as to reveal the allness of God and the utter nothingness of all that appears to be material or evil.

Now the spiritual vision with which Christian Science endows its students is invaluable to them as they have regard to conditions today. The world seems to present many tragic aspects—sin often appears to be rampant, disease to hold many in bondage, poverty to grip others pitilessly. And throughout the world many are to be found, the victims of envy, jealousy, pride, and hate, who are contemplating revenge and planning evil against those they deem their enemies. When the student of Christian Science, possessed of spiritual vision, surveys evil thinking, he is not dismayed, for his understanding of real being comes to his aid, informing him that in no slightest degree is evil real.
