The Christ-Way

Dear shepherd of us all,
Thy words ring clear:
Beloved, feed my sheep
And lambkins dear.
The world has need of all
Thy service kind;
Raise up the fallen ones,
Comfort mankind!

And for thy friend today,
This must thou do:
When asked to go one mile
Go with him two.
Give to him now thy coat,
Shield him from cold.
Then give thy cloak; entwine
With love each fold.

And if thine enemy
Smite hard thy face,
Give him the other side—
For thee, God's grace.
The world has need of thee;
With childlike mind
Walk in my footsteps sure;
Comfort mankind!
