Topic: Help in Adversity

[Reginald G. Ashman, as quoted in the Christian World Pulpit, London, England]

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills. From whence shall my help come? My help cometh from the Lord." Yes, He alone can help us attain the Christian ideal. He alone can relieve the loneliness of the height when you are called to the leadership of others, or when you stand alone for Jesus Christ and his ideal.

But there is another kind of loneliness, the loneliness of the depth, when sin or failure, sorrow and death bring us down into the valley. Who can lift us thence? Who can set us on our feet again and put a new song in our mouth? There is only One, even He who was the Helper of the Psalmist and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who made us and redeemed us and is calling us even now to an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that fedeth not away.
