It is with deep gratitude that I testify to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. When I was a young man I had a strong desire to follow the teaching of the Protestant church which I attended, but very reluctantly I had to admit that I could not understand God; and not being able to understand that which I thought must be the basis of life, I very early gave up all faith in religion. Failing to find peace and satisfaction from this source I lost desire to live constructively. In such a state of thought I gradually found myself losing all self-respect, and the craving for alcohol had become so strong that I was beginning to lose any desire to live at all. Many times during this degrading period I would have moments of hope that there was some power that would reveal itself in a manner to give me hope and courage. It was at such a moment that a student of Christian Science introduced this teaching to me, explaining that it was a very practical religion, and that those who studied it were able to prove it in their daily lives. On page 1 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, are these words, "Desire is prayer"; and I understand now that through my continual desire to know what Life really is, I was continually praying, and my prayer was answered in my learning of this practical truth which meets every need.

During the few years that I have studied this Science, I have proved that it annihilates false desires, beliefs of unhappiness, erroneous physical conditions, unemployment, and many more suggestions which try to interfere with the harmony of life. For the light which Christian Science throws on the Bible I am extremely grateful, because now it has become a book of Life which I am gradually understanding. As our Leader tells us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 363), "The Bible is the learned man's masterpiece, the ignorant man's dictionary, the wise man's directory." I thank our Father-Mother God for the help given me through friends, for the opportunity given me to be of service in the Christian Science movement as a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church, and for the great privilege of class instruction. This testimony would not be complete without expressing my sincere gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Alfred C. Taylor, Hutton, Nr. Weston-super-Mare, Somersetshire, England.
