With sincere gratitude for many blessings, and a heart...
With sincere gratitude for many blessings, and a heart full of love for God and our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I find great pleasure in acknowledging the benefits which have come to me through Christian Science.
This Science was introduced into our home over twenty years ago. At that time one member of the family was healed of a severe case of blood poisoning, and another was healed of deformity and of pneumonia and measles, when she seemed to be in "the valley of the shadow of death." After these healings, it was my privilege—one of the blessings for which I am most grateful—to attend a Christian Science Sunday School. From the teachings that I received there I learned, at an early age, the truth of our Leader's words written in the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. xi), "These mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural."
After coming into Christian Science I was not subject to any of the so-called children's diseases, although I was frequently exposed to them, and previous to this time it had seemed natural for me to have all of these diseases during their apparent prevalence.
My healings in Science have been many; among them have been those of burns, infection, headache, toothache, corns, lack, and numerous other difficulties. At one time I had a physical ailment from which there was a discharge. At the beginning the pain was severe, but through my realizing the truth about God and His perfect creation, the pain was lessened. However, the condition seemed to grow worse instead of better, and the wound became larger. Persons not interested in Christian Science became aware of the difficulty, and advised me to see a physician, because they believed that a surgical operation was all that could correct the disorder. I closed my thought to all forms of error, and continued to rely on Principle, but it was necessary to ask a practitioner for help, which was lovingly given. After the first few treatments the fears of those who were anxious about my condition were overcome. The condition remained the same, so I gave the practitioner a detailed report each day. She said, "Cease to examine yourself, and your healing will be in order." In obeying these words I did not look at the wound again, and I never knew when the discharge ceased and the wound healed.
In Christian Science, if we know the truth about God, we know the truth about man; for man reflects his creator, God. A perfect God could not create a man who expresses discord for a single moment. When this truth is realized our seeming problems are overcome. I prove this daily. During the recent years of so-called depression I have overcome the fear of lack and unemployment by knowing that God's idea expresses God, and He lacks nothing. In so doing, I am about my Father's business, and my supply is at hand.
For all of the healings which have come to me, I am most grateful; but the understanding which makes clear that "in him we live, and move, and have our being," brings that "peace of God, which passeth all understanding." My membership in The Mother Church and a branch church brings me much joy, and the privilege of serving in the Cause of Christian Science. I am grateful for the privilege of teaching in Sunday school and serving as a member on the Board of Directors in a branch church and on a Monitor Circulation Committee.
