For seventeen years I have depended on Christian Science...
For seventeen years I have depended on Christian Science to meet every need. Sometimes the healings have been instantaneous, at other times slow, but each problem has meant growth in my understanding of God, and I have learned to be grateful for every one of them.
When I first took up the study of Christian Science, I was healed through reading Science and Health of a so-called incurable skin disease, a severe throat trouble, and hay fever. These first healings have meant to me what the overcoming of the lion and the bear meant to David, and I have always been deeply grateful for them.
Several years ago, when our eldest son was quite small, we were camping high up in the mountains of New Mexico. The boy had not been well for some days. One morning it became necessary to go about thirty miles down the mountains for supplies, and while we were in the village, he became very sick. We felt that it was wiser to take him to a near-by town where there was a good hotel than to go back to camp. We found that there were no Scientists in the town, so a wire was sent to a practitioner in our home city. By noon the next day the boy seemed so much worse that a doctor was called, and he pronounced the disease typhoid fever. As soon as the doctor left the room the boy sat up and said: "Mother, we have always been Christian Scientists. Why would we ever have a doctor?" Immediately the fear and mesmerism were broken and in fifteen minutes the fever was gone, and by noon of the next day the boy was out of doors playing.
