Silent Prayer

The congregation hushed in silent prayer.
Discouraged, sad, I bent my weary head.
Why give my thought to all the others there?
My own concern should claim this time, instead!
Then deeply shamed I made a quick reply:
My brother's cross is mine to carry, too.
He has a share in infinite supply,
And all that he can know is good and true.
Let all who worship here be fed and freed!
Bless these within thy gates. I made my plea.
Then came a sense of love that met my need—
The prayer another heart had made, for me!
