A wonderful demonstration of Truth took place in our home about fourteen years ago. One month before my son was born I became ill with a bad case of smallpox. The practitioner told me that I should have the physician call to give a diagnosis. He said that I must be quarantined for smallpox. My husband and daughter went to stay with relatives, and my sister, who was a student of Christian Science, stayed with me. Every day I talked with the practitioner and my sister and I read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and other Science literature. I was not in bed an hour because of this illness, but we all did mental work for my coming child, for it seemed that the whole community was worried as to the outcome.
I was quarantined for just two weeks; and two weeks from the day the quarantine was lifted my son was born, as normal a baby as anyone ever saw, without one pockmark on him. The loving and kind practitioner was in the home at the time, and she told me later that the doctor and nurse seemed astounded because everything was normal. I have realized many times since how little I knew of Christian Science at that time, but I did know that "with God all things are possible."
Another healing that seems very wonderful to me was of a sick headache. I was up in the mountains one summer and had to ride horseback nine miles down a mountain trail. I awoke about midnight with a headache. I declared what truth I knew until morning, but the headache still remained. After dressing, I went outside the cabin and looked at the mountains and wondered how I should ever get home that day. Then the ninth verse from the forty-fifth chapter of Isaiah came to my consciousness very clearly, and in five minutes all the pain and sickness were gone and I was able to ride the nine miles on horseback, and then ninety miles in an automobile, without the least discomfort. I have also been healed of eczema by reading Science and Health from the Preface through to the last page.
