Christian Science means everything to me and mine
Christian Science means everything to me and mine. Through its study we have been helped out of many difficulties. About two years ago we decided to move to a larger town, as it seemed to us that we were not progressing in Science as we should, for there was no church in our town. Although a little group of workers met each Sunday to read the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly, and a testimony meeting was conducted the first and third Wednesdays of each month, my husband and I thought we could not gain much understanding in a small town where there were so few Scientists. We were to learn very soon that it is not the place in which one lives that helps or hinders progress in the truth.
We moved to a place where there were many Christian Scientists, who were wonderfully kind and generous to us, and a beautiful church. But soon we began to see our mistake in thinking that we could gain in understanding merely by going to a church and meeting more Scientists. One problem after another presented itself, one of which was unemployment. My husband had left his position when we moved, and in a strange place he seemed unable to get work of any kind. We called on a practitioner and had a helpful talk with her; and she promised to begin work for us at once. Within a day or two it came to us clearly that we had done wrong in thinking that our growth in spiritual understanding depended on the number of Science worders dwelling in the town in which we lived; so we decided that it was best to go back to our home town and start all over again. The practitioner said that if we tried, we could gain the same understanding in our own little town; that if we joined our little group and tried out best to do all things well, we should gain step by step.
In preparing for our journey back home we found we were very low in funds. My husband, being new in Christian Science, was in great fear. I knew that all would be well, for after the treatments had been given I felt a great sense of peace. Our dear Leader says on page 494 of Science and Health, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." We were soon to see these words proved true again, for we started on our journey with the little we had, trusting our all-loving Father to care for us; and through the practitioner's work our every need was met by Love.
