I wish to express my gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to Mary Baker Eddy, who has given to us the real understanding of our Father-Mother God, and of ourselves as the Father's perfect ideas. I am very grateful that this understanding can be gained by reading and studying Science and Health. I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing, but through witnessing a demonstration of the healing truth as taught in this Science.

From my youth I have had a knowledge of the Scriptures, as I was very active in Christian work in Scotland before I was twenty-one years of age. But as time went on and the many daily problems in life made their appearance, due to my lack of proper spiritual understanding I soon began to doubt and at the same time earnestly question God as I regarded Him then, likewise to question my elders, but received no satisfaction.

I had never heard anything about Christian Science at that time. Finally, we were led to come to America. About seven years later my wife became so sick that the doctors ordered an operation, which at that time would have been a hardship to us, regardless of results. Then a friend who had been healed of stomach trouble through Christian Science came to see us. Soon we saw the great Physician as the healer of all diseases. My wife was healed, and she soon became a member of a Christian Science church.

Then again I started to watch and question very carefully. The children began to go to the Christian Science Sunday School. They no longer needed medicine or a doctor's care, which of itself wa wonderful to me. I went to church regularly with my wife, and for seven or eight years watched the healing of all kinds of sickness and of trouble in business and in the home circle, through the application of spiritual understanding with the help of a practitioner.

Finally I was ready to take my stand for Christian Science. The drinking and smoking habits soon disappeared, and I have had many other wonderful demonstrations from time to time. One in particular was the healing of boils. When I was an usher in church, two small boils appeared under an arm, but I did not pay any attention to them. Finally, a large one made its appearance and began to trouble me about four o'clock one Sunday morning. Error argued that I should not be able to usher; but I had now learned enough of Christian Science to be able to deny this. I repeated in sincerity "the scientific statement of being," as found on page 468 of Science and Health, and then went to sleep. I got up as usual and ushered in church, all without any inconvenience. The difficulty had entirely disappeared.

There are only a few of the many problems that have been solved in the rightful way. I am indeed grateful for Christian Science.
