Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

Hongkong and Canton, China.

It is cause for gratitude that although during the past year there have been many references to Christian Science in the Hongkong and Canton newspapers, very few of them have been of a nature to require correction. Excerpts from our Lesson-Sermons continue to be supplied to and published by the Hongkong and Canton newspapers. This work is felt to be of great importance, as these reports reach points far up-country. Some of these reports are accompanied by small advertisements of our Reading Room and authorized literature.

Only two letters of correction were required from this office, and these, I am glad to say, were promptly published by the editors. In one instance the bishop of Hongkong, after making a kindly reference to the Christian healing restored by Christian Science, unfortunately gave out several erroneous statements which called for correction. In the other instance, some statements at a theosophist meeting might have caused Christian Science practice to be wrongly associated with what is known as hypnotism, and a brief reply correcting this misstatement was made.
