Fasting

To fast is not to grieve with downcast look;
To fast is to reject the carnal mind
With all its hates, and fears, and empty pride,
Deceptive, wrong desires that do enslave.
To fast is dwelling in Christ-consciousness;
To starve the sin that would have man believe
That God has not provided for his need,
That good is helpless, truth of no avail
To guide in paths of joy and happiness.

Thus turning from misleading mortal sense
We fast, and touch the healing robe of Christ.
