Autosuggestion relies on the operation of the human mind, while Christian Science attributes all power to God, the divine Mind. Autosuggestion may be practiced, and indeed usually is practiced, by the insistent repetition of formulas; while Christian Science depends upon spiritual understanding, and the use of formulas is positively forbidden by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. A Christian Scientist accepts the statements of Christ Jesus, "I can of mine own self do nothing," and, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."
