Although I had never heard of Christian Science until...

Although I had never heard of Christian Science until about three years ago, I have received so many healings and so much help that I feel I must try to express my gratitude for every channel through which this wonderful Science of Truth has helped me. I shall never forget the first Wednesday evening testimony meeting I attended, and all the loving-kindness expressed by the friends I met there. I am very grateful for all the literature, the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and for the never failing help of the willing practitioner.

A healing which stands out wonderfully is that of a fistula which had troubled me for some years. I had previously had one removed and felt I could not face another operation. After I had been under the care of a surgeon for many months he told me that my only hope was an operation, and as he could not tell me how extensive this would prove, he could not assure me of a cure. I went to dietists and another surgeon, who could give me no hope of a cure at all. It was in this state, and also suffering from complications, that I first went to a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly pointed out to me the unreality of error; and although it took me some time to understand how such an agonizing thing could be nothing, at last I reached the stage at which I was able to leave off material aid. One Sunday evening I attended the church service in such agony that only the knowledge that I had gained of Christian Science gave me the needed courage to attempt to take the journey there. When the practitioner spoke to me I could only tell her that I needed help very badly, and she lovingly assured me that I had it. I went to bed feeling that I could not rest or sleep; but imagine my joy when I awoke in the morning to find that all pain was gone—the trouble had indeed vanished.

As I write, many other blessings come crowding into thought. I have no need of glasses which I had worn for four years; a large wart and some painful corns disappeared when I realized the truth about them. I am sincerely grateful for the understanding that has come to me of the words of Mrs. Eddy, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii). Most truly do I desire to live a life of gratitude shown by loving service.
