"The loveliness of Love"

In the one hundred and thirty-third Psalm the excellency of brotherly unity is portrayed, the first verse reading, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" Study of the Scriptures shows how this state is attained, namely, through love for one's fellow men. And yet, to those unacquainted with the teachings of Christian Science, this may seem unattainable. Why? Is it not due to a lack of understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him?

There are, however, many today who are gaining this understanding, for the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, is illuminating the Bible and unlocking to them its treasure house. They are learning how to bring into their daily experience "the incorporeal sense of God and man as the infinite Principle and infinite idea,—as one Father with His universal family, held in the gospel of Love" (Science and Health, p. 577).

A student of Christian Science once found herself in an office where there was enmity among the staff. One day she was on the point of becoming impatient with the situation, which was interfering with the progress of the work, when the words, "The loveliness of Love is all around," from a hymn in the revised Christian Science Hymnal came to her. She then remembered the beautiful words in Science and Health (p. 248), "Love never loses sight of loveliness," and realized that she had the key to the solution of the problem. From that moment the situation began to improve, and in a short time all sense of enmity had disappeared, and in its place were amity and coöperation.
