When Christian Science was first presented to me I was...
When Christian Science was first presented to me I was happy in my relations with an orthodox church, but soon felt that if Christian Science was the truth I must prove it for myself. With the words of the Psalmist in mind, "O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill," I earnestly started to study the Christian Science textbook. I attended the services and lectures, and listened eagerly to the testimonies at the Wednesday evening meetings. Some months later, in searching my thought, I was surprised to see how the truth had been unfolded to my consciousness. I then knew Christian Science to be the truth. Study was taken up more sincerely, and membership in a branch church and later in The Mother Church was sought and obtained.
Among the many blessings which have followed are class instruction, which has taught me how to study and demonstrate the truth; and the privilege of serving in the Sunday school and in other activities of the church. Many healings have been demonstrated in our home through our own work and with the loving help of practitioners. One of my first healings was of appendicitis. The suffering was intense when the help of a practitioner was asked. In a few hours the pain and fever had disappeared, and in two days I was well. Our daughter, when a child, was healed of measles, all manifestations disappearing in three days.
Our Leader tells us in Science and Health (p. 494): "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good." I am continually grateful for God's ever present love and protection, and for the revelation of truth to this age by Mary Baker Eddy.—(Mrs.) Ethel Marion Kingsford, Riverside, Rhode Island.
