Nine years ago I suffered severely from rheumatoid arthritis. I had been under a doctor's care for many years and grew worse, until he could do no more for me. He asked me to try massage for my legs, so I had a nurse for six months. At the end of that time I was worse than before. I just dragged myself upstairs and slid down as best I could.

At this stage Christian Science was brought to my attention, and a friend told me that divine Love had not caused me to be in that condition. The Christian Science textbook was brought to me, and I was told I could find the truth in that book, so I searched for it. That was on a Thursday. I read all that day and could not see anything that would give me relief, but I read again all Friday, when the truth slowly began to unfold to me. I continued reading for four days. On the fourth day the pain in my legs was very great, but soon I realized my healing. I walked up and down the stairs four times to prove my God-given dominion over error.

In the evening I went for a walk with my husband. I slept that whole night through—something I had not done for years. The following day I went out alone on two car journeys, and each time climbed to the top of the tram. The guard who had formerly helped me on the car wanted to know what had happened; he was pleased to see me so much better. I did not realize the cause of this healing until I told my friend who had brought me the book what had taken place. She told me I had been healed by reading the textbook. The condition has never returned. I had not been to a Christian Science church or had any treatment. I have had many healings since then. If we are faithful and honest, there is healing in Christian Science for everything discordant.
