From Letters, Substantially as Published

In the public opinion column of your issue of September...

Journal

In the public opinion column of your issue of September 30 appears a letter which makes some erroneous statements in regard to Mary Baker Eddy and Christian Scientists. I respectfully ask that the following facts be published.

The Scriptures teach that God is Spirit, and that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Hence, man is spiritual. The writer evidently does not understand the distinction which Christian Science makes between the real or spiritual man and mortal or material man. Through the transforming power of divine Mind, Christian Scientists are striving to obey the advice of Paul in his epistle to the Ephesians when he admonished them to put off "the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts," and to "put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."

May I quote what Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" with reference to the deathlessness of the Christ (p. 333): "The advent of Jesus of Nazareth marked the first century of the Christian era, but the Christ is without beginning of years or end of days."
