Healing constitutes a subject of real interest and importance...

Healing constitutes a subject of real interest and importance to all mankind. A misconception of the healing work of Christian Science attained some prominence in a recent issue of your paper, which quoted some remarks by an English bishop.

The attention of your readers and of others interested is invited to the following statement to be found on page xi of the Preface to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation."

In the weekly, monthly, and quarterly periodicals of the Christian Science denomination may be found verified accounts of healing from diseases—of cancer, blindness, consumption, accident, et cetera—and from loss, poverty, sorrow, and sick business. All of these healings are wrought as Jesus healed, without resort to drugs, manipulation, or material methods, and without resort to a "study of the human body," as our critic has recommended. Jesus was the example to all mankind, and we are privileged, yes, urged, to "follow his steps."
