Before I took up the study of Christian Science I was...
Before I took up the study of Christian Science I was very miserable. Chronic constipation, agonizing headaches, and ulcers of the stomach kept me in constant distress, and compelled me to seek relief from first one school of medicine and then another. Finally I reached the conclusion that my case was hopeless, and I became more or less resigned to my condition. For many years I had nursed a secret longing to know something about the creating and guiding hand of the universe, for I felt that there would be pleasure and comfort in being able to believe in God, but this, like my physical condition, also seemed hopeless.
About that time I heard of some cases of healing in Christian Science, and felt the urge to investigate this religion; not that I thought it might heal me, but probably out of curiosity to know something about a religion which was bringing unusual good to mankind. At the request of a relative I went to a Christian Science service. Strange as it may seem, although I was so badly in need of physical healing, Christian Science appealed to me at first only from its theological side, and I attended church regularly. Shortly thereafter there began a series of healings, physical, mental, and moral, which have given me cause for deepest gratitude for this great religion and its Founder.
First I was healed of any necessity for wearing glasses which I had worn for astigmatism for more than ten years. Next in order I was healed of constipation and ulcers of the stomach, all through the reading of the textbook. These healings took place over sixteen years ago and have proved to be permanent. Later on, as I grew in understanding of the truth about God and His creation, as explained by Christian Science, I was gradually freed from the painful headaches which had tortured me so often through many years.
