Gratitude

Father, I thank Thee that Thy love hath brought me
By ways unknown,
That through life's hardest lessons Thou hast taught me,
My God is One.

After long years of groping, stumbling, striving,
Cometh Christ's peace,
And at the shore of heavenly calm arriving,
Life's tempests cease.

'Tis but the preface to the wondrous story,
I've read thus far,
But see, as did the Wisemen, the great glory
Of Bethlehem's star.

Oh, perfect peace, the boon of Life eternal!
Love without fear,
Through these, beholding heaven's joys supernal,
We enter there!
