I feel the urge to express through this testimony my deep gratitude to God and to Christian Science. Six years ago I was very ill, suffering from gout and all its unpleasant and painful attending symptoms. The physicians were unable to help me, and ultimately my condition was such that I could neither work, sleep, nor eat; and walking caused me great agony.

One day acquaintances took me to a Christian Science Wednesday evening testimony meeting. Up to that time I had not known anything about this religion. That service became a turning point in my life. The reading, followed by testimonies, moved me so deeply that for the first time, after three months' extreme insomnia, I slept that night. With each day I improved rapidly, and within two weeks I was entirely healed. My acquaintances gave me three copies of Der Herold to read; but further information about Christian Science they could not give me, for they themselves were beginners in its study. I purchased a copy of Science and Health and read and reread it, for my healing seemed like a miracle to me. I began to understand that this religion demands the correction of self, and also began to see many things which I had to mend in my thought. Patience and forgiveness had to be learned; self-will, self-love, and many other errors had to be put off. Subsequent years were lived for Christian Science alone, and many blessings were bestowed upon me. With the help of the textbook and the understanding I gained from its study, I was in the position to help myself out of all problems, for my first great demonstration was ever before my eyes.

A beautiful time now began. I was admitted to membership in a Christian Science Society, and now have the privilege of participating in church work. For this also I am very grateful. I thank our Father-Mother God with all my heart for enabling Mrs. Eddy to open for us the way out of darkness into light.
