Among the Churches

Current Notes

Fergus Falls, Minnesota (Society).—Plans have been perfected by the Christian Science Society of Fergus Falls for the erection of a church edifice on the corner of Whitford and Summit. This building site has been the property of the Christian Science Society for a number of years. Building operations will begin immediately. The building will be a frame structure and stuccoed. The society feels that building at this time will fill its own need and also give employment to several men.—Daily Journal.

National City, California (First Church).—A dedication service of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city was held at the church edifice on the corner of Tenth Street and D Avenue on Sunday, September 24, 1933. The service was repeated in the afternoon to accommodate visitors from neighboring churches. It is well known that churches of this denomination are not dedicated until entirely free from debt; and many friends of this organization joined in its joy and thanksgiving.

This church is the National City branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, which was founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science.

This branch was started in the summer of 1920, when a small group of earnest students of Christian Science began holding regular church services and formed a Sunday school. Different halls were used by the organization until February, 1924, when their present church home was completed. The church edifice is a one-story frame bungalow with a seating capacity of about one hundred. It is conveniently located in the heart of the residence district of National City, within a few blocks of two bus lines.—National City News.
