Our readers will be interested to know that when the application of the President's National Industrial Recovery Act was considered in relation to the hours of employment in The Mother Church administrative offices, it was found possible to adopt a five-day week, and this was put into effect August first. The employees found it convenient and pleasing. Effective September first, both The Mother Church and The Christian Science Publishing Society reduced the hours of service of their employees wherever possible beyond the requirements of the Act in the matter of hours. The clerical force of The Mother Church now has a thirty-eight and one half hour week, with offices open from 8.30 in the morning until 4.40 in the afternoon on week days other than Saturdays, when all offices are closed. The Publishing Society, where possible, now operates its mechanical departments on a thirty-five hour week, while the clerical departments have the same number of hours per week as do The Mother Church Offices. A five-day week has also been put into operation by the Publishing Society in all departments where such a schedule can be worked out. The hours at the Publishing Society are from 8.00 in the morning until 4.10 in the afternoon.

These changes have made it necessary and possible to take on additional employees, who are already at work. Thus The Mother Church and the Publishing Society are complying whole-heartedly with the spirit and the letter of the Recovery Act.
