[Original testimony in French]
I was twelve years old when I heard Christian Science...
I was twelve years old when I heard Christian Science mentioned in our home by my father, who interested himself in every system of thought and in all kinds of religions. Today I realize that my youthful mind was early impressed by accounts of its good works and that even then I loved it. I thank God for having led me to choose "that good part" which has made me so happy.
When I was sixteen I suffered for six months with pain in the hip joint, to which I paid no attention; but those around me advised me to see a doctor. I decided to do so, and the doctor, unable to make a diagnosis, had X-ray pictures made. I could not walk very long without suffering, and when I did walk I felt as if the hip joint were dislocated. The doctor ordered almost complete rest, after which he said he would diagnose. This verdict made me resolve at once to go for the first time to a Christian Science practitioner. Two days later I felt no more pain, and I could run and walk freely and with no fatigue. I have never again suffered from this trouble.
After this experience I made no further study of Christian Science, though I used to read the Bible, which I loved. But time and trials soon forced me to seek a more complete knowledge of God than that commonly taught. Some time before my marriage, my fiance fell seriously ill. Overwork and many other things had laid him so low that fever and headaches, followed by amnesia and mental disorder, brought on a kind of meningitis. A few months before this we had started to read Science and Health together.
