Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

Maryland.

During the period covered by this report eleven Christian Science lectures were held for the public and one at the Maryland penitentiary. ... The increase in attendance at these lectures is a cause for great rejoicing. One field reports "the attendance at our lectures is steadily increasing and is being reflected in our church services." Another reports that one hundred and fifty persons were turned away from one of their lectures, being unable to gain admittance. Another reports, "It was the largest crowd that we have ever had at one of our lectures." Healings reported as taking place either at lectures or as a direct result of lectures are too numerous to enumerate in full in this report. One healing was of a desire to commit suicide; another of a sense of hate. A man feeling despondent over business conditions entered the lobby of a hotel where a Christian Science noonday lecture was being held. He knew nothing of Christian Science but followed the crowd, heard the lecture, read the literature given him, borrowed the textbook, then purchased a copy, and as the days passed found his attitude of discouragement diminishing. He attended other lectures. Later he applied to a Christian Science practitioner for help in Christian Science and was healed of a physical disorder.
