Christian Science came to me as a direct answer to prayer
Christian Science came to me as a direct answer to prayer. My husband and I joined a church shortly after we were married, and for years, from time to time, I would say, "If only they would tell us about God!" When a little daughter was born to us we were very happy, but in the midst of this happiness I was stricken with nervous prostration. My one prayer was to die. When our daughter was nine days old I turned to my mother-in-law and asked her if she thought that Christian Science could help me, and she replied, "Yes." She then asked a friend of hers to help me. From the first I loved the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and turned to its pages constantly.
My healing was very slow at first, although Christian Science saved my life. When the baby was five months old my husband was ordered to do some work in another city. With my four-year-old boy, I accompanied my husband, leaving the baby in the care of my mother-in-law. However, I was still being attacked by a hideous fear, although I was healed to the extent that I never again attempted to take my life and I was having natural sleep. While in this small city I was beautifully led to a faithful Christian Science practitioner. After my first visit I was free. The fear came up twice again and I quickly asked for help, and after the third treatment I awakened one morning and my heart sang with joy—the loving prayers of the practitioner had been answered and I was healed. I knew it because the black cloud which always greeted me each morning had disappeared.
I wish to add that it had been said I could never have another child, but fifteen months after the birth of our daughter a boy was born to us, and with Christian Science treatment the birth was so quick that the child was in the world before the nurse and doctor were ready to receive it. Later, a third boy was born, also with Christian Science treatment, and on the seventh day I was allowed to get up and thereafter lost not a day from my usual routine. Witnesses were convinced that it was Christian Science that had enabled me to keep my strength so well.
