I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, although much needed to be healed. A student of Science who had been healed of consumption told me of God "who healeth all thy diseases." I enjoyed this new-old story, for I believed that if God's power ever healed, it could not have been lost. I read some literature and attended the Christian Science church a few times, but was not ready for the whole truth; however, the seed had been sown and in a time of need I turned wholly to God.
When twin daughters were prematurely born and placed under death sentence by the doctors, in my distress I sought and found God who is Life and Love. The Christian Science practitioner whom we called came to our home, banished the thought of death with the truth of being, and also healed me of a dropsical condition. After this experience, while trying to help and protect the little ones, bilious headaches, catarrh, and backache, which had been my daily companions for many years, disappeared without special work.
I shall always be thankful for the blessing that came to me when I first tried to apply the teachings of Christian Science, of which I knew very little. After I had had Science and Health for only a month, a child was badly burned. The only student I knew was out of town, but I took the book, turned to "the scientific statement of being" (p. 468), and stood firmly for the truths stated therein; and in about five minutes the child stopped crying and soon was sleeping peacefully. There was no more trouble, and the arm was healed in a week. Another member of the family, who had inflammatory rheumatism in the ankle joints so badly that she could not stand at all, was so relieved in one treatment that she could walk easily, and was soon healed.
