The Better Way

OUR aim as Christian Scientists is instantaneous and permanent demonstration of the power of Truth over every phase of error. Experience shows that temptation is more readily because more scientifically conquered as we dwell less on the effort of refraining from wrong and more on the joyous impulsion to reflect the corrective power of Truth in every situation and condition. In proportion as we live in the spirit of the "Thou shalt love" of the two great commandments, the "Thou shalt nots" of the Ten Commandments will inevitably be obeyed. This highest vigilance detects and rejects each presumptuous claim of error and calls into expression the liberty of the children of God. Maintaining in thought and deed the true volition and capacity to love, to be pure, merciful, and peacemakers, we shall become unable to express the reverse, for God's will is holy and harmonious.

For example, instead of pleading guilty and so becoming guilty, when tempted by impatience, fear, pride, and hurtful criticism, we may prove without delay the beauty of patience, confidence, and their power to produce harmony. The constant sense of man's unity with the divine nature makes great demands and bestows equally great rewards, for infinite Love is our refuge from all that is unlovely. Divine Mind is free from the ensalvement of so-called mortal mind; and when standing unshod upon the holy ground of spiritual inheritance, we may always prove our reflected freedom from wrong.

On page 140 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says, "We shall obey and adore in proportion as we apprehend the divine nature and love Him understandingly, warring no more over the corporeality, but rejoicing in the affluence of our God." We need to see through and beyond the imperfections of so-called human nature by apprehending and manifesting more of the divine nature. The positive fact wipes out the negative belief. In winning each victory, as win it we indubitably must, being Christian Scientists, we may choose, then, between warring and rejoicing; between suffering because of a groundless belief in something opposite and opposed to God, Spirit, and opening wide our thought to love Him understandingly. Rightly choosing, we receive evidence upon evidence of Mind's indisputable, healing power.
