My attention has been called to an interesting column in one of your recent issues under heading "A Wonderful Book," and the author is to be congratulated on the comprehensive manner in which he handled his subject, "The Bible." I should like, however, to correct any erroneous impression that might be gained from his inference that Christian Scientists do not "read the Bible and pray."

The Christian Science religion is founded upon the Bible, including the teaching and practice of Christ Jesus, and the Christian Scientist is taught to accept the Bible as his "sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 497). In fact, Christian Scientists are taught to read and study the Bible consistently and understandingly. "The Bible and the Christian Science textbook are our only preachers" is the opening statement of the Explanatory Note (Christian Science Quarterly) which is read in connection with the Sunday services in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, throughout the world.

The entire first chapter of Science and Health is devoted to the subject of prayer. It begins with the wonderful assurance that "the prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love;" and she refers to God as "the all-hearing and all-knowing Mind, to whom each need of man is always known and by whom it will be supplied" (Science and Health, p. 7).
