For some time prior to my taking up the study of Christian Science...
For some time prior to my taking up the study of Christian Science I was almost constantly under the doctor's care and found it necessary to be absent from business very frequently. As I grew no better it was finally decided that I should go away for a while to get a complete rest and change. This I did, but it was all of no avail, for my condition did not improve. It was then that Christian Science was recommended to me and I decided to come home and try it.
The day after I reached home I visited a practitioner; treatment was begun, and I immediately began to improve. One of the first healings that took place was that of the necessity for wearing glasses, which had not been mentioned to the practitioner on the day of my first visit with her. The next day, when I returned to business, the glasses were forgotten. Whenever this had happened before the glasses were sent for because I felt that I could not get along at work without them, even for a moment. This time, however, having evidently gleaned something from the practitioner's statements of truth, I said to myself, If Christian Science can heal; if, as the practitioner explained, God is the only power, is All-in-all, then there is no aid needed from glasses to help me see to do my work or to relieve eyestrain, and therefore I can get along without them. The healing was complete and the glasses have never been used since that time.
The application of Christian Science healed the various other ailments to which I was in bondage at that time; and since then, a period of more than sixteen years, it has been proved in my experience that, when rightly applied, Christian Science never fails. During these years many healings have taken place, of colds, grippe, a severe case of sunburn, poisoning, headaches, temporary deafness caused by wax hardening in the ears, and many other difficulties, the medical terms of which I do not even know.
