Continuing Church Building

WHO among us that has experienced the joy of church building has not felt at its completion the tendency to relax into a state of satisfaction? How we recollect economizing in one direction and then in another, giving of our time and labor to accomplish the desired payment toward the completion and dedication of our church home! Can we stop there? No, for should we do so, our church growth would stop. Whether or not we have a local church home, church building must ever develop in our consciousness, which should be so filled with the Christ, Truth, that it reiterates the spirit of the Master, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Then those who are weary, sick, depressed, and bowed down with the burden of their problem will intuitively come to the truth and be healed by it.

As church members we are constantly inviting the public to our church services and lectures, and those needing this healing truth will accept the invitation to come and partake of this spiritual feast and receive their healing. Every Christian Scientist should share the responsibility of preparation for these guests, even though he may not as yet be a church member. Time spent in thoughtful preparation before each service and lecture will accomplish much healing, at the same time breaking down criticism and other resisting states of mortal thought.

In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 5) Mrs. Eddy states specifically what should be the nature of our thoughts during silent prayer when she says, "The prayers in Christian Science churches shall be offered for the congregations collectively and exclusively." As we obey this By-Law we shall not bring personal problems, prejudices, likes or dislikes into our church services, for unselfish prayers alone bless and heal those in need. Healing thoughts are garrisoned with joy, thanksgiving, and a conscious realization of the ever present God. After the silent prayer the congregation repeats the Lord's Prayer, of which Jesus said, "After this manner therefore pray ye;" and then he gave that all-embracing prayer for the supply of all, the forgiveness and protection of all, and for a recognition of God's kingdom here and now.
