When Christian Science was first introduced to me I did...
When Christian Science was first introduced to me I did not promise to go to the church, but about two weeks later I had a strong desire to attend the service. It was Sunday evening, and I shall never forget the peace which came over me whilst the silent prayer was going on. I said to myself, This is where I shall get my healing; for I felt God's presence with me. I went home that night feeling happier than I had felt for years, and had the first good night's rest I had had for eleven years.
I had been through two operations for internal troubles, and had not recovered from these; and I also had a serious kidney trouble and a weak heart. When I took up this religion I was wearing a belt with two pads. Other troubles were gastric stomach, indigestion, and constipation. The doctors had told me that they could do no more for me. I thank God for guiding me to Christian Science, and for the practitioner who helped me very lovingly for a week. One morning something seemed to tell me that I should have to do the work for myself, and I told the practitioner. I knew that in reality I was a perfect, indestructible child of God, and not subject to any so-called laws of matter. I kept the correct idea of man before my thought as well as I knew how to, for seven months and a half, and then I was entirely free of the old troubles.
I could not express in words the gratitude I feel for the teaching of Christian Science. It has given me a better understanding of God, and has changed my whole life. I am grateful to God, to Christ Jesus, and to Mary Baker Eddy for her unselfish love for all mankind. I am also grateful to the loving practitioners, who are ever ready to help in time of need. I am grateful, too, for membership in a branch church and for all the help given in our churches.—(Mrs.) Mary A. Elmore, Firth Park, Sheffield, England.
